Board of Directors (In Formation)

Establishing governance and oversight before launching services

Neighbors Light is intentionally building board leadership, policies, and financial oversight before launching services. We believe that strong governance and organizational foundation are essential to serving our community with integrity and accountability.

Our board will provide strategic direction, ensure financial stewardship, and guide the organization through its launch and early growth phases. This governance-first approach reflects our commitment to building a sustainable, trustworthy organization from the ground up.

Founding Board Seats Open

Neighbors Light is seeking founding board members to help shape the organization's governance, policies, and strategic direction. Board positions are currently open, and we are building our governance structure intentionally and thoughtfully.

This is an opportunity to participate in the early formation of an organization dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness in Norman, Oklahoma. Founding board members will have direct input on organizational policies, financial oversight, and long-term vision as Neighbors Light prepares to launch services.

We are not currently operating services. This is a governance-building phase, and board work will focus on establishing the organizational foundation, policies, and infrastructure needed to launch responsibly.

Board Responsibilities

The Board of Directors is responsible for mission protection, financial oversight, executive accountability, and long-term strategic direction. The board governs policy and structure but does not manage day-to-day operations. Our governance framework outlines these responsibilities in detail.

Meeting Structure & Expectations

During the pre-launch development phase, board members participate in working sessions focused on governance documentation, compliance sequencing, and institutional design. Once operational, the board will meet at least quarterly with additional committee meetings as needed.

Board service is voluntary and unpaid. Founding board members contribute to structural formation before services begin.

Skills & Experience Sought

Neighbors Light is seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Nonprofit governance
  • Financial oversight or accounting
  • Legal or regulatory compliance
  • Healthcare discharge planning
  • Workforce development and employer engagement
  • Community systems collaboration
