Neighbors Light transitional housing program Norman Oklahoma
In development
Norman, Oklahoma

A program of and for Cleveland County.

A small, structured place to recover, rebuild, and step back into work.

Referral-based  ·  Small capacity  ·  Structured support

Neighbors Light is a small, structured transitional housing program being built in Norman, Oklahoma.

It is referral-based and designed for adults ready to stabilize and move forward, who need structure, accountability, and support to do it.

The program focuses on two pathways:

  • Medical respite for individuals recovering after a hospital stay
  • Workforce transition for individuals ready to return to work and build stability

Residents enter with a plan and work toward routine, income, savings, and a clear next step into independent housing.

This model is designed to fill a gap between hospital discharge, homelessness services, and long-term stability.

Help Build Neighbors Light as a Founding Board Member

Neighbors Light is forming its founding Board of Directors. We are seeking community members, professionals, advocates, and people with lived experience who want to help build practical solutions for homelessness and hardship in Norman.

Board members will help shape governance, guide early strategy, support fundraising readiness, and help launch the organization responsibly. This is a working board focused on meaningful impact during our first year.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. No prior board experience is required for every role.

Expected commitment: one monthly meeting plus reasonable startup collaboration.

Initial conversations are informal and confidential.

A transitional house, not a shelter.

Neighbors Light will be a small residence with a fixed number of rooms, a daily routine, and case management. People come in by referral from a partner hospital, clinic, or service agency. They have a defined goal, a defined length of stay, and a plan for what comes next.

That structure is the program. Stability, routine, and accountability are how recovery and employment actually become durable.

Not

A drop-in shelter or walk-up service.

Not

A large dorm-style facility.

A long-term apartment program.

Medical respite and workforce transition.

Every resident enters through one of two structured tracks. Both are time-limited and both end with a clear handoff.

Track 1

Medical Respite

A safe place to recover after hospital discharge for people who do not have a home to go back to. Clean room, regular meals, medication routine, follow-up appointments, and discharge to stable housing or care.

Typical length

2 to 8 weeks, by referral from a hospital or clinic.

Track 2

Workforce Transition

A structured path back to employment for people who are ready to work and who need housing stability to get there. Daily routine, employment plan, savings plan, and transition to independent housing.

Typical length

3 to 6 months, by referral from a partner agency.

People who are ready to move forward, with structure to support them.

Neighbors Light is a small program with limited beds. It works because residents come in through trusted referral partners, agree to the program structure, and have a clear next step in mind. It is not for crisis intake, walk-ins, or active acute mental health or substance use emergencies. Those needs are better served by partners listed in our Norman homeless services guide.

Two founding board members.

We are forming the board that will set up governance, finalize the program design, and guide the launch. We are looking for two more people based in or close to Norman who can bring practical experience in nonprofit operations, healthcare, workforce development, law, finance, or property management.

This is a working board, not a ceremonial one. Expect monthly meetings and real decisions during the first year.

Until Neighbors Light opens, here is where to go.
